Violence Strikes Without Warning: Choose Readiness Over Regret

Just weeks ago, real-world violence shattered everyday lives in heartbreaking ways:

In Katy, Texas, three loose dogs—reported as pit bull mixes and a Cane Corso—mauled and killed a man in his 60s during his routine morning walk on a local trail. Hours later, the same dogs attacked a mother and her 3-year-old child in a nearby neighborhood, sending both to the hospital with serious injuries.

An MIT professor, Nuno Loureiro, was fatally shot inside his own home in Brookline, Massachusetts—a quiet suburb, during what should have been a safe evening.

In Dallas, a woman named Kyra Stubbs was shot seven times by a stranger in a Walmart parking lot as she returned to her car after shopping. Surgeons called her survival a miracle; her recovery is expected to take at least a year.

What do these victims have in common?

Two critical factors:

1. They were going about normal, routine activities. Walking on a familiar trail, at home, or shopping at a everyday store. None were engaging in high-risk behavior, committing crimes, or venturing into “dangerous” areas.

2. They were unarmed. Being defenseless in those moments was a choice—one with irreversible consequences.

At Lone Pine Tactical, we don’t sugarcoat reality: Violence doesn’t send invitations. It erupts anywhere, anytime, against anyone. Accepting this truth is the first step toward taking control of your personal safety.

You may be selected as a victim without consent—but becoming victimized? That’s where you draw the line. Preparation turns the tables.

Jeff Cooper, the legendary firearms pioneer, captured this perfectly in 1996:

“It is not as difficult as playing the violin, but it is a bit harder than riding a bicycle. When it is achieved, adequate pistolcraft produces in its owner a peace of mind unknown to other people—as long as he is armed, awake and aware. He may never have to use his pistol in a lethal encounter, but the fact that he knows that he can do so better than any adversary he may meet gives him a serenity that is the envy of the rabbit people.”

That “serenity” isn’t luck—it’s earned through mindset, skills, and tools.
